Annual Service Review Page 3 of 6 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review: What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information we have received, or asked for, since the last key inspection, which was carried out on the 25th November 2008. This included, The Annual Quality Assurance Assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people receiving support from Serenita. It also provides some numerical information about the service. Surveys returned to us by people using the service and from other people with an interest such as relatives, social workers and GPs. We did not receive any surveys as none were requested. Information we have about how the service has managed complaints. What Serenita have told us about things that have happened in the Service. We also looked at the last Key Inspection report. What has this told us about the service? Serenita sent us their Annual Quality Assurance Assessment (AQAA) when we requested it. It was very clear and gave us all the information we asked for. We looked at the information provided in the AQAA and our judgement is that Serenita continues to provide a good service and that they know what further improvements they need to make. They told us in their AQAA that they continued to listen to people by holding, daily staff meetings to discuss the days events and the planned appointments, trips and routines of the residents. We hold fortnightly meetings with the residents with an open agenda. We have one-to-one discussions of individual care plans with the residents. As a result of listening to the people living in the home they told us they had changed their daily routine to include more life skills involving people in the home, they had changed the daily activities to make them more person centred and they had changed facilities in the home to include a residents kitchen and exercise area. We also require registered services to recognise the Equality and Diversity needs of people within their care. They told us in their AQAA that they were, an equal opportunities employer and have policies and procedures in place to ensure this continues. We incorporate the cultures of a number of countries through the diversity of our staff. We ensure that the same opportunities are available and open to all. We welcome the faiths and religion of others without restriction. Other improvements they said they had made included, staff training which meant that outcomes for people living in the home had improved with person centred care planning and a full care plan in place on admission. Staff awareness of ways to manage and support people with Korsafoffs syndrome and alcohol related illnesses had also improved with Dementia awareness training being compulsory for all staff. A Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 refurbishment programme ensured that all areas had been refurbished with people living in the home having some input in the ways their rooms were decorated and the equipment in them. Regular meeting between management and all levels of staff in the home meant continuity of care and support for people within the home. Serenita continues to let us know about things that have happened since our last key inspection and they have shown that they have managed issues well. They work well with us and have shown us that their service continues to provide good outcomes for the people receiving support from their organisation. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We are not going to change our inspection plan, and will do a key inspection in line with current regulatory guidelines. However we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people living in the home.
