Annual Service Review Page 3 of 5 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review: What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for about the Seton Unit since the last key inspection. We asked the manager to complete an Annual Quality Assurance Assessment (AQAA) form. This form is for the manager to consider and report on how well the service they provide meets the expected outcomes of the people using the service. We sent surveys to the manager to give to residents, staff and health and social care professionals and asked them to tell us their views on how they think the home is run. We looked at the report that was written about the homes last key inspection. An Inspector went to the home as part of that key inspection and spent time with the residents, staff and the manager. What has this told us about the service? The Commission has not received information of any complaints or concerns about this service since the key inspection. The manager responded positively and promptly confirming completion of any actions required following the last inspection. These are also noted in the managers AQAA, identifying where recommendations have been implemented. The manager returned their AQAA when we asked for it. It was well completed and gave us the information that we asked for. It told us how care provision focuses on promoting individual person centred care with the involvement of the resident, who is supported to make their own decisions. It also shows what plans the manager has to continue to develop the service. Four surveys were received from residents. They all indicated that they receive all the personal and medical care and support they need, that staff are available when needed and listen and act on what they say, that the home is always fresh and clean, that there is someone they can speak to if they are not happy and that they would know how to make a complaint. Comments on what the service does well included improvements are made as and when requested and very caring, could not do better. One survey was received from a member of staff. This indicated that they usually have enough information about the needs of the people they support, are generally given relevant training and support to meet these needs, would know what to do if there was concern about the home, and that there are usually enough staff to meet individual needs of older people who use the service. After looking at the Annual Quality Assurance Assessment and other evidence our judgement is that the home is continuing to provide a good service. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We are not going to change our inspection plan, and will do a key inspection by 27th October 2010. However we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people using the service.
