What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for, since the last key inspection on 17 February 2009. This included: The annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. Surveys returned to us by people using the service and from other people with an interest in the service. Information we have about how the service has managed any complaints. What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. The previous key inspection and the results of any other visits that we have made to the service in the last 12 months. Relevant information from other organisations. What other people have told us about the service. What has this told us about the service? The home sent us their annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) when we asked for it. It was clear and gave us all the information we asked for. We looked at the information in the AQAA and our judgement is that the home is still providing a good service and that they know what further improvements they need to make. One completed survey was received from someone who used the service. They indicated that they were happy with the service they received. When asked in the survey what the home does well they said doctors appointments, meals, heating, generally very good all round. Four completed surveys were received from staff. They were all very positive about the home and the service provided. They confirmed that they had received training for their role and that there were sufficient staff on duty to meet peoples needs. Comments included we make sure all the needs are met and take time to interact and to talk with all service users, food and hygiene is up to standard in and about the home and we provide a safe place for all our service users. Three of the four staff who replied commented that there could be more entertainment Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 for the service users. The information in the AQQA informed us that the management were aware of the improvements required in this area. The AQQA stated we have succeeded in enrolling service users on Adult Education courses to improve their employment skills, self improvement courses with relaxation techniques and volunteer projects to maintain individuals links with the community. All service users are aware of the activities run locally. We would like to establish more day to day activities in the home. We could offer more day trips out of the home. This is now possible thanks to the Goole Gofar project that offer us minibuses with disabled access at a subsidised rate. The Commission have not received any complaints about the service and the information in the AQQA showed the home had not received any complaints since the last inspection. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? The completion the annual service review has not changed our view of the quality rating of this service therefore we are not planning to inspect this service before 17 February 2011. However we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people using the service. Annual Service Review Page 5 of 6 Reader Information
