Annual Service Review Page 3 of 6 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review: What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for, since the last key inspection or annual service review. This included: The annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. Information we have about how the service has managed any complaints. What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. The previous key inspection and the results of any other visits that we have made to the service in the last 12 months and relevant information from other organisations. Relevant information from other organisations. What other people have told us about the service. What has this told us about the service? The home sent us their annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) when we asked for it. It was clear and gave us all the information we asked for. The manager had looked at each outcome area and reported on each standard in turn. The AQAA was informative and relevant to the home and people using the service. We looked at the information in the AQAA and our judgement is that the home is still providing a good service. The AQAA told us that people who use the service benefit from detailed plans of care. The people who use the service are involved in the decision about planning care and they are reviewed on a monthly basis. It documents the individuals preferences for example clothes, hobbies, activities and places they liked to visit. They also told us in their AQAA that people using the service have choice in their daily lives. Activities and meals have been improved following the resident meetings. The manager stated in The AQAA that through listening to the people that live here in the house and what they want, many changes for the better have been achieved. Where a person may have problems reading about what meals they are having from the menus we have pictures, which we have taken here in the home not only of the meals themselves but of everyone actually making them which has built their confidences up greatly. We regularly look at the menus to see if any changes need to be made and if so they are implemented immediately. The AQAA provided further evidence that the service has improved the quality and quantity of activities now offered at Shardeloes, it stated that our spectrum of activities have widened significantly, more people attend the Resources Centre at Head Office in Wimbledon doing a variety of different things, music & dance, crafts, cooking Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 etc. (5 out of 7), one person still goes to college independently to attend the courses of his choice and regularly goes out and about into the local and surrounding community as does one other person living in the home as and when he wants to. Further developments are also planned to enhance the independence of the people who use the service, the manager provided plans for the future, which included support all those living here in the house to become as independent as they can possibly be for themselves within the home as well as outside in the local and surrounding community, to not only gain their independence to do things for themselves but to also build their self-confidence so that they can have the sense of achievement to want to do more for themselves. In order to achieve these goals the service will provide the people living in the house regular access to the local and surrounding community so we have made sure they all have travel permits -train and or bus- so that they can travel with or without support (if required) we also have a house car to make access easier for those who are unable to walk to far. We have and are continuing to build a good staff team who support those living in the house in every way they can. We were also advised that the home has not received Any complaints during the last year and has not made any referrals to the local safeguarding adults team. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We are not going to change our inspection plans and will do a key inspection by 7th October 2010. However we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people using the service. The last key inspection for the service was on the 08th October 2008.
