What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at the previous Key Inspection Report and information that we have received or asked for from the service since the last Key Inspection. This included: The Annual Quality Assurance Assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gives us some numerical information about the service. We sent out surveys to health professionals, one relative and five staff members. We received responses from two staff members and the information from these is included in this report. Information about significant events in relation to people living in the home, which the registered manager (following their responsibilities under the Care Homes Regulations) inform the Commission of. These are called Notifications. A random inspection of the service made on 01/10/09 in response to a complaint made directly to the Commission about the implementation of aspects of the services recruitment process. What has this told us about the service? The Annual Quality Assurance Assessment was returned on time and completed to a high standard. It gave us lots of useful information about the way that the service is meeting peoples needs. Particular attention is paid to effective communication within the service and people living there have communication passports and are assessed by Speech and Language Therapists who recommend to staff the optimum ways to communicate with people. Staff receive specific training about different communication techniques to use with people, such as using objects of reference. The two staff who responded to our survey were very positive about the training and support that they receive to do their job, Skills for Living are a good company to work for, they have very high standards of care and training. All the staff are professional and well-trained. Both staff said that they were always given up to date information about the needs of the people they support and that there are always enough staff on duty to meet peoples individual needs. The service responded promptly and thoroughly to concerns raised about aspects of the recruitment process; this response has included the designation of a Human Resources Manager within Skills for Living. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 We are not going to change our inspection plan, and will do a key inspection by 30/01/12. However we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people using the service. Annual Service Review Page 5 of 6 Reader Information
