What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for, since the last key inspection. This may include: The annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. Information we have about how the service has managed any complaints. What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. The previous key inspection and the results of any other visits that we have made to the service in the last 12 months. Relevant information from other organisations. What other people have told us about the service. We sent four surveys to the home for the people there to be asked to complete for us. Unfortunately these responses are not available at the time of this review. However we telephoned the home and spoke with two of the people living there and they were able to tell us what it was like to live at Springfields. What has this told us about the service? The home sent us their annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) when we asked for it. It was clear and gave us all the information we asked for. We looked at this information and our judgement is that the home is still providing a good service and that they know what further improvements they need to make. We spoke with the manager about changes that had been made in the last year. There has been building work done at the home to increase the number of people the home can accommodate from four to six. Although the owner/manager had applied to the commission to vary her registration, this has been withdrawn for now, whilst more work is done to meet the required fire safety regulations relating to the new build. The manager also told us that the home had met the recommendation made at the last site visit a year ago. She also told us more about how people living there spend their time and how they are encouraged and supported to be independent and to make decisions about their day-to-day lives. We spoke with two men living at Springfields. They both told us that they were happy there, and that the staff were ok and that they listen to what we say. One person commented that they liked their bedroom and had a lot of books and a television there, and both said they liked the food, which was varied and plentiful. Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 Both said they thought the manager was easy to talk with and both said they would tell her if something was bothering them, or if a person had been unkind, or rude to them. Neither the home nor the commission has received any complaints in the past year. They continue to let us know about things that have happened since our last key inspection and they have shown that they have managed issues well. They work well with us and have shown us that their service continues to provide good outcomes for the people who use it. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? It is currently our statutory responsibility to inspect all care services at least once every three years. Therefore we are not planning to inspect this service before 26 January 2012. However we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people using the service. Annual Service Review Page 5 of 6 Reader Information
