Annual Service Review Page 3 of 6 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review: What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received or asked for, since the last key inspection. We have then used the information to assess the home for this annual service review. This includes: The Annual Quality Assurance Assessment (AQAA), a document which gives the manager the opportunity to tell us how the home is meeting the standards and regulations; it also includes some useful statistical information about the service. Surveys returned to us by staff working at the home and people using the service. We make use of any notifications received from the service about significant events affecting residents, staff and the running of the home. We also make use of any other information received about the service since our last key inspection; this could be from health and social care professionals, representatives and other stakeholders. The previous key inspection and the results of any subsequent visits to the home. What has this told us about the service? The manager returned the AQAA to us on 27 January 2009, when we asked for it. It is clear and gives us the information we asked for. Responding to What our service does well, the registered manager tells us We offer a high standard of care in a clean, friendly and comfortable, well maintained environment, ensuring that all the individual residents choices, needs and rights are met. We retain staff, and do not use agency staff, in order to offer continuity of care to our service users. Our judgement based on the information in the AQAA is that the home is still providing a good service and that they know what further improvements they need to make. Surveys received from 5 residents and 5 staff members indicate that the quality of care and support provided at this home continues to be of a high standard. Staff and residents have made many positive comments. Wonderful place. Glad I left my other home. Posh building there but no friendly staff. This is lovely, wrote a resident in their survey. Staff are very friendly and caring. They always help me when I need it, reflected another person in their survey. A staff member stated in their survey St Annes is a very well organised home, providing all the care and needs for the residents. Also the workers are looked after very well and our manager always has time for us. We have made telephone contact with the acting manager on 5 May 2009 and she provided the following information: i) There are currently no complaints or safeguarding matters pending; there have been no complaints made to the Commission, regarding any aspects of the service. ii) The manager has completed her NVQ level 5 in management and she intends to submit an application to the Commission for the registered managers post. Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 Evidence is available to show that the service has notified us of any incidents, as required under regulation 37 of The Care Homes Regulations 2001. They work well with us and the service continues to provide very good outcomes as indicated by staff and residents in their surveys. The main findings of the last inspection report dated 7 May 2008 were that Residents consistently expressed a good level of satisfaction with respect to the quality of care and support they receive, a view shared by all 8 relatives in the survey, including 1 visitor spoken to. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? Our plan is to do a key inspection by 6 May 2010 , unless information is received to trigger an earlier inspection. We can inspect this service at any time if we have concerns about the care or welfare of any residents. There is currently no evidence to suggest that an inspection is required in the near future.
