Annual Service Review Page 3 of 6 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review: What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received since the last key inspection. This included: The previous key inspection and the results of any other visits that we have made to the service in the last 12 months. The provider submitted an annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) in August 2009. The AQAA is a self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service. These are called notifications and are a legal requirement. Relevant information from other organisations. What other people have told us about the service. What has this told us about the service? The last inspection found that people who use the service experience excellent quality outcomes. We found that the service does the following things well: Residents personal, cultural, social and healthcare needs were well assessed, recorded and met in the home. The home is well run, well managed and well staffed to meet residents care needs. Staff are well supported and have access to a range of good quality training opportunities. People living in the home and their relatives told us that they were very happy with the standards of care and accommodation provided. We found that the service could do the following things better: Make sure that fire doors are not wedged open at any time. Make sure that all staff have leave to remain and work in the UK. We will check whether the home has improved these areas at the next key inspection. The AQAA told us that the home has made the following changes as a result of listening to residents: We discuss care plans with clients and their families We have changed seating arrangements at meal times We have installed a Sky TV to a service users room at the request of her family We have purchased a nursing bed for one service user as requested by the district nurse. The AQAA told us that most peoples care is funded by local authorities but some people pay for their own care. Four people had left the home and six people had been admitted in the last year. The AQAA told us that one complaint about the home had been upheld in the last year. There have been no referrals under safeguarding vulnerable adults procedures in that time. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 We will do a key inspection by 20 October 2011. We may inspect the service sooner than this if we have concerns about the quality of care or the safety of the people using the service.
