Annual Service Review Page 3 of 7 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review: What did we do for this annual service review? Date quality rating was made 11/06/2008 Date by which we will do a key inspection 11/06/2011 Date of last key inspection 11/06/2008 We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for, since the last key inspection or annual service review. This included: The annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. Surveys returned to us by people using the service and from other people with an interest in the service. Information we have about how the service has managed any complaints. What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. The previous key inspection and the results of any other visits that we have made to the service in the last 12 months. Relevant information from other organisations. What other people have told us about the service. What has this told us about the service? The home sent us their annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) when we asked for it. It was clear and gave us all the information we asked for. We looked at the information in the AQAA and our judgement is that the home is still providing a good service and that they know what further improvements they need to make. The home sends us the information it is supposed to. We have not received any complaints about the home and the AQAA tells us the home has not had any complaints in the past 12 months. The AQAA tells us that they seek the views of people who use the service by using an Annual Questionnaire to residents, representatives, staff and professionals, a suggestions box, an open door policy, and offering individual meetings with the manager for residents and families. Annual Service Review Page 4 of 7 The AQAA tells us the service has made some improvements in the past 12 months. These include: More varied activities with involvement from Pershore Older Peoples Forum More outside trips being organised e.g. Safari trip and Christmas Lights trip Ongoing changes to residents menu Purchase of additional varied size slings to suit the varied needs of residents Weekly round by manager to meet with individual residents Residents meeting reduced to every 4 months The introduction of a visiting dog to the home Development and improvement of a pre-admission assessment Increased the number of staff involved in care planning More staff now have accredited medication training More responsibilities for staff and access to NVQ training Access for staff to Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow Dementia Training recommended by the Alzheimers Society The AQAA tells us the home has plans for improvement for the next 12 months. These include: Increasing the number of en-suite rooms Possibility of a pet dog for the home Recruitment of an activities co-ordinator To improve the out door areas To access a more in depth Protection of Vulnerable Adults course with more practical training for all staff Manager to access dementia training We received surveys from people using the service and their representatives. People tell us they always have the care and support they need and staff listen to them. Suggestions for improvement include offering more activity and stimulation. Comments include: cares for residents in a friendly way, clean, no smell, friendly, helpful Annual Service Review Page 5 of 7 maybe a little more stimulation to do things, entertainment could be better We also received comments from health professionals and staff, who also commented that people receive good care and support and there are usually enough staff but some improvements could be made in providing activities and maintaining the home environment. Comments include: homely environment with good quality of care, regard for the individuals dignity and independence, run in a professional manner with ongoing training for staff, people are invited for an assessment day or visit, staff are polite and respectful and encourage people to personalise rooms, they are always prepared for reviews with care plans up to date. some of the communal areas need decorating, there is no activity organiser in post, some staff prepare breakfast and supper taking them away from the staffing team, a few more activities are needed, a new activities coordinator has been advertised for, more activities are required - staff should seek out whats on locally and arrange transport for trips out, people should be asked what they would like to do socially outside of the home to feel part of the community, at reviews people tell me they want regular activities. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We are not going to change our inspection plan, and will do a key inspection by 11/06/2011. However we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people using the service.
