Annual Service Review Page 3 of 6 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review: What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information we have received, or asked for, since the last key inspection. This included: The annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. What the service has told us about anything that has happened in the service, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. Comments received from people who use the service, their relatives and people who work in the service. These were obtained from completed questionnaires we sent to them. The previous key inspection. What has this told us about the service? The home sent us their AQAA after we sent them a reminder. They provided some information about the services they provide but limited information about how they are going to improve the service in the next 12 months. This is important because it is a way of demonstrating a robust quality assurance process and continued improvement in care. We received completed questionnaires from people who live and work at the home and from two people who visit the home to provide health services. The people who live at the home said they were mostly happy with the service provided. One person said all aspects greatly improved with the new manager. There were two areas where although people were not unhappy with the service they felt it could be better. One of these was meals most people said there were usually meals they liked and one person said there were only sometimes meals they liked. One person said the meals were always nice. People who responded to the question about activities said there were usually activities going on that they could take part in. We received completed surveys from eight members of staff. Again these were largely positive. People were particularly happy with the training provided by the home. The AQAA stated that no staff had completed the Common Induction Standard set by skills for care, but a significant proportion of staff had achieved or were working to wards completing a national vocational qualification in care. One person said they never received one to one supervision but they were usually happy with the support they received. When asked what the service does well most people referred to treating residents as individuals and with dignity. The visiting professionals who sent questionnaires also said they thought the service provided a good service. One person said they treat residents with dignity. Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 The home continues to let us know about incidents and accidents that happen within the home. We have not been made aware of any concerns or complaints about the service since the last key inspection. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We are not going to change out inspection plan, and will do a key inspection by 2nd April 2010. However, we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people using the service.
