Care Homes for Adults (18-65 years) Page 3 of 8 What we found: Before this visit we looked at information we have received since the last visit on 7th June 2007; any changes to how the home is run and the providers view of how well they care for people. Since the last inspection, the manager has been promoted and a new manager, Mrs Jennifer Corner, registered with the Commission. Mrs Corner has worked in the home for a number of years and was promoted from a senior position. An unannounced visit was made on 25th May 2010 by one inspector. The term we is used throughout the report to describe what the inspector did. During the visit we met with three service users who were at home and observed how they were cared for. We talked with the manager, two staff and met several others. We looked at a care record and some other documentation. We looked around parts of the building to make sure it was safe, clean and comfortable. We also checked what improvements had been made since the last visit. At the last visit, someone had been employed before a full satisfactory disclosure had been obtained from the Criminal Records Bureau (CRB). The manager confirmed that no new staff are employed without a full check being carried out first. Care plans and risk assessments are kept on the premises at all times, rather than send them away for retyping. They contained lots of photographs and pictures to help explain their contents to service users. Staff confirmed that they use the care plans and knew how to meet their needs. The care plans were comprehensive and detailed risk assessments were in place. Guidelines are also in place to help staff understand the person and the reasons why they may behave in particular ways. Parts of the home have been refurbished and repairs have been carried out. The home has good staffing levels and the staff receive good training. Staff confirmed they used the care plans and knew how to care for the people living here. The findings made during this inspection confirm that the home continues to provide an excellent three star service.
