Annual Service Review Page 3 of 7 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review: What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information received and asked for, since the last key inspection on 21st May 2008. This included: 1 The Annual Quality Assurance Review (AQAA) completed by the Registered Manager, including a self assessment on how well outcomes have been met and numerical information about the service. 2 Any complaints we have and information we have about how the service has managed concerns, complaints and allegations. 3 Information received through notifications of things that have happened in the service in the past 12 months. 4 The previous Key Inspection report from 21st May 2008, and the results of any other visits we have made in the last 12 months. 5 Relevant information from other organisations. 6 What other people have told us about the service. What has this told us about the service? The Annual Quality Assurance Assessment AQAA was returned on time, and was well completed with evidence of how the service operates and has performed. We looked at the information in the AQAA, the surveys received, the history of the service, and the previous report. These evidenced that people who use the service are satisfied with the care, support, and services that they receive, and staff are being appropriately recruited, inducted and trained in their respective roles and responsibillities, in order to meet the needs of the people who use the service. The Annual Quality Assurance Assessment AQAA completed by the registered care manager told us The statement of purpose and service user guides have both been updated to include clearer descriptions for service users and identify holiday costing and transport provision. All care plans include financial costings and up to date resident contract March 09. Residents have been encouraged to participate more in the writing and filling in of daily care records, and staff now support two residents by signing their daily records to acknowledge their activities and achievements through the day. The development of more comprehensive care plans with a direct link to risk assessing in a clear accessible format for staff and service users to help identify how peoples care allows them to take recognised and managed risks. This allows for furthering the independence of residents. Individual agreements drawn up for specific areas of the care plan around how residents wish to be supported with managing their finances. Residents have chosen to purchase ethical, local and seasonal produce from supermarket and the towns regular farmers market. Green file documents and evidences all suggestions from residents to improve lifestyle. Accessed the new public Annual Service Review Page 4 of 7 leisure facilities in Stafford and encouraged a wider use of local green spaces to promote healthy activities. We have incorporated Oak Tree Farm as a local ethical source for plants that residents are able to access and fully funded by the company. We have used a local fish farm for fresh fish. Incorporated a new Nomad medication system to make it easier for residents to self manage medication. Much less complicated system and a lot less cumbersome. A High level of information is documented in to homely remedies is held by the home and there is information and research about these in care plans. These are checked by the G.P and are incorporated into the nomad system with the approval of the pharmacist for administration, recording and stock control. Grumbles books and suggestions are being used more regularly to record updates and changes. Complaints leaflets and procedures have been updated and redistributed to include the new CQC address and telephone number. This has been designed in a pictorial and written format. Refurbished garden furniture. Residents have requested that the living room and dining room be swapped around and this has been supported. Everyone is in agreement that this is better for all who live there. Bedroom redecorated to individual choice after choosing colours with paint charts and new three piece suite in the living room. Surround sound system installed in the living room. Applied for all appropriate training courses available through SSCWP. Had input with SSCWP to provide training needs. Improved supervisions after updating supervision training for staff who undertake staff supervisions. Wherever possible training has been done out of house to give a wider range of inputs and sharing of good practices. This enables good networking in the care industry. Managers and Senior care staff have updated supervision knowledge with a one and a half days training with Stafford college. Produced new monthly audit check paperwork, new training matrix developed. Development of computerised systems for the recording of information and training. New supervision format implemented. Our judgement is that the agency is still providing a good service, and they know what further improvements they want to make. A total of five Have Your Say surveys were received from people who use the service, this was a good response, people expressed their satisfaction with the service. There had been no Safeguarding Adult Protection referrals made to Social Services, and no complaints had been received, either by the service, or by the Care Quality Commission CQC since the previous inspection. We were informed about important events, including incidents and accidents that have happened since the last inspection. The service is managed in a way that shows it has the interests of the people who use the service as the focus of activity. At the previous inspection, the standard of service was judged to be good 2 star. There were four recommendations and no requirements made. Recommendations made were in relation to ensuring that the costs for transport and holidays are included in the Statement of Purpose and Service User Guide, Contracts should be up to date and contain relevant information regarding fees, risk management should be strengthened Annual Service Review Page 5 of 7 and individual fire risk assessments should be signed and dated. These recommendations will be monitored at the next inspection. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We believe that the quality of this service has been maintained since the previous inspection. We plan to do a Key Inspection by June 2010 to review our assessment of the agency. However, we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service, or the safety of the people using the service.
