This visit was a random visit and was announced shortly before the inspection to make sure that someone was available to assist in the process. It lasted approximately three hours and we took into account previous information held by us including the previous inspection report, the service history and records of any incidents that we had been notified of since the last inspection. During this visit we talked to two people to obtain their views about whether they felt their needs were being met and about their quality of life. We also made observations throughout this visit of the care being received by residents as some lacked the ability to make comment. We also spoke to two staff to learn their views about how they felt their training and development needs were being met. We also spoke with the manager who is also the provider of this home to learn of any changes which have taken place and if there were any risks to the people who live in the home. Surveys have been sent to the home but were not available to the inspector at the time of writing this report. We were told by two people who are a couple that, we enjoy digging in the garden, writing in our picture books and playing the drums. They confirmed that they have birthday parties and said that, the staff are nice and they look after us; no one shouts at us and we are very happy. We looked at the homes documentation and found no complaints or safeguarding vulnerable adults issues had arisen in the last twelve months. No negative comments were received by people who live in the home or staff working there during this visit. One member of staff told us that he had undertaken training including; fire training, moving and handling, infection control, medication training, safeguarding vulnerable adults training and induction training. Training is undertaken to ensure that staff can meet peoples needs. He said there is an ongoing training programme, which they are all expected to attend. He confirmed that he is currently undertaking NVQs, National Vocational Qualifications level 2, in caring for people with a learning disability. The provider commented that there are six staff and two have an NVQ level 3 and one has a level 4 and that three are currently undertaking NVQ level 2. She also said that training is being undertaken by all staff relating to new laws about decision making for those people who may lack some capacity. A member of staff confirmed that he had undertaken employment checks carried out by the provider. This included obtaining two references, a criminal record bureau check (CRB), protection of vulnerable adults check (POVA) and a formal interview. In house training relating to safeguarding has been undertaken and was documented in the training programme. Peoples files showed us that the chiropodist and the doctor visits when a resident has any health care problems. People are involved in their own care folders documenting their social history and their current lifestyles and how they wish to live their lives. This documentation can travel with them to inform hospitals or other placements if they
