What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received or asked for since the last key inspection or annual service review. This included: The annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the home. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. Surveys returned to us residents their advocates staff from other people with an interest in the home. We received 13 in total. What the home has told us about things that have happened: these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. The previous key inspection. What has this told us about the service? The home sent us their annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) when we asked for it. It was clear and gave us all the information we asked for. We looked at the information in the AQAA and our judgment is that the home is still providing a good service and that they know what further improvements they need to make. It told us of many good areas of practice for example: a newsletter for residents and relatives to keep them informed of developments in the home; the use of dementia mapping to improve care for residents, and that they were winners of an award by the International Journal of Palliative Care and have been short listed in the palliative care category in the Nursing in Practice Awards 2009. Residents who completed our surveys told us that they received enough information about the home before they moved in, that there were enough staff around when needed and that the home was fresh and clean. One resident told us: they give plenty care and attention to all patients another stated the home responds well to my medical needs. Relatives seemed to rate the home. Comments we received included: I have watched staff and they all seem to know their work are totally dedicated always cheerful and very helpful and they make my husband feel at home and that makes me happy to know he is in good hands. However two relatives felt there should be more activities and outings for residents to participate in. Staff completed our survey and told us that they are given up to date information about the people they support, that they undertake relevant training to their job, and that they feel supported by their manager. However 3 told us they felt that more staff were needed to better meet the needs of residents. The home continues to let us know about things that have happened since our last key inspection and they have shown that they have managed issues well. They work well with us and have shown us that their service continues to provide good outcomes for the people who use it. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 We are not going to change our inspection plan and will do a key inspection by 13 October 2010. However we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people using the service Annual Service Review Page 5 of 6 Reader Information
