Annual Service Review Page 3 of 6 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review: What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that had been received, or asked for, since the last key inspection. This included; The Annual Quality Assurance Assessment (AQAA) which was completed by the manager of The Hope Residential and Nursing Care Home. The AQAA is a self assessment document that gives the service an opportunity to assess how outcomes are being met for people using the service. Surveys were sent to gauge the opinions of service users and staff regarding the care and support provided in the home. Information that the home needs to inform us about called notifications and are a legal requirement What has this told us about the service? The home completed the Annual Quality Assurance Assessment (AQAA). It was completed in good detail and was in line with the information gathered from the last inspection of the home. The information written in the AQAA document and information gathered over the period of time since the last key inspection continues to show that this home continues to provide good quality care and support. Comments in the completed AQAA included; Our aim is to preserve and maintain the dignity, individuality and privacy of all residents in a warm and caring atmosphere and with sensitivity to the residents ever changing needs. Our service is cost-effective, nonprofit making and all are welcome into our Home, whatever their background or belief. We welcome residents families and friends to visit at any time and take active part in the life of the Home, which has an open and approachable management style. We have one Sister from The Holy Family of Bordeaux who provides pastoral care for our residents. Catholic services are celebrated by the Sisters and all residents are welcome to attend We have continued to train and develop staff to gain NVQ qualifications and on-going professional development. We have also concentrated on improving staff awareness of the importance of activities. We encourage all staff to develop themselves within induction and NVQ framework, funding their training if necessary. We have worked to improve our Care plans ensuring our focus is on a person centred approach. We continue to develop End of Life Care. We will continue to follow our business plan and meet our set targets. Improve our ability to produce the evidence required to prove that the Home is providing an excellent service, residents are happy and well cared for, and all information required by other agencies is available and up to date. Continue to train and develop staff to ensure they have the skills to provide care and support to residents and their families and friends. Continue to listen to our residents to ensure that we meet their needs. Maintain our excellent reputation by continuing to deliver a high standard of care and support to residents, in a homely environment. Comments received in resident surveys included; It has an excellent programme of activities. It is very well run and there is a good community spirit. I think this should count as a top-ranked home. Very caring and friendly staff and relatives are encouraged to participate and have their say. The nurses are special. My room is comfortable and the care and attention I have received has been excellent. There is an overall atmosphere of compassion and kindness. Constant care is given with efficiency Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 without any intrusion on ones personal dignity, and with smiles. I regard the Hope as my home. However, there were a number of comments made about the varying quality of the evening meal/supper. Comments received in staff surveys included; We care and listen to our residents and try to follow up on individual needs. The Senior members of staff are very approachable and deal with issues that arise. Training is always offered, mandatory training is always given. If you find a course that interests you The Hope will fund it. You are always given support in your work or with any problems. However, there were a number of comments which indicated that communication between staff could improve. The information received in the AQAA, surveys and other information received since the last key unannounced inspection,(4th November 2008), indicates that the home continues to provide residents with good quality care and support. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We will not change our inspection plan and a key inspection of the home will be undertaken by 3rd November 2010. However, we can inspect the home at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the residents.
