We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for, since the last key inspection or annual service review. This included: The annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. Surveys returned to us by people using the service and their relatives or representatives and staff. Information we have about how the service has managed any complaints. What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. The previous key inspection carried out on 23rd January 2009. What has this told us about the service? The home sent us their annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) when we asked for it. It gave us all the information we asked for. We looked at the information in the AQAA and our judgement is that the home is still providing a good service and that they know what further improvements they need to make. The manager told us they plan to improve the time staff spend with individuals, increase the number of individual activities, involve people in shopping and cooking for themselves and involve people in staff recruitment in the next year. People who use the service told us they were involved in the decision to move in, they usually make decisions about what they do and they do what they want to during the day, evening and at weekends. People are aware of how to make a complaint, they said the home is always clean and fresh and they said staff listen and act on what they say. Staff told us they have the support and training they need to do their job. They had the appropriate checks before they started work and their induction partly covered all they needed to know. Staff feel they provide a friendly and homely environment, have a good understanding and communication between people who use the serivce, staff and managementwork. Staff said that having more support staff would enable them to do more activities and spend more time with individuals. The home has not received any complaints since the last key inspection in January 2009. No complaints or issues regarding safeguarding have been received by the CQC. The home continues to let us know about things that have happened since our last key inspection. They work well with us and have shown us that their service continues to provide good outcomes for the people who use it. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 We are not going to change our inspection plan, and will do a key inspection by 8th January 2011. However we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people using the service.
