What did we do for this annual service review? The last time we carried out a key inspection at Treetops was 3rd December 2008 and this is the first annual service review of this service. We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for, since the last key inspection or annual service review, which included the annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people living in the home. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. We also asked people what they thought of the home, previous to this annual service review we sent surveys to people living there and other people with an interest in Treetops; staff members, social workers, doctors and other professionals who visit the home. We checked our records for information we have about how the service has managed any complaints it gets and looked at what the home has told us about things that have happened there, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. We also had a look at the previous key inspection report and the results of any other visits that we may have made to the service in the last 12 months and took into account any other relevant information that people or any other organisations had shared with us since the last inspection. What has this told us about the service? The home sent us their annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) when we asked for it. It was clear and gave us all the information we asked for. We looked at the information in the AQAA and our judgement is that the home is still providing a good service and that they know what further improvements they need to make. We sent surveys to the people living in the home, some of the staff members and other professional involved with the home. We got a good response, the parents and friends of six of the residents completed the survey on their behalf as they have limited communication skills, eight staff returned theirs and one was returned by a healthcare professional. We were told that people liked living at Treetops, one person said, They look after me and take me away for holidays Another person told us that, From our point of view, we see our relative regularly and we are very happy with the care they are receiving at Treetops. One staff members answer to the question what does the service do well was, Treetops staff ensure that all the clients personal needs are met, giving lots of free choice and promoting independence. Another staff member said, We understand our clients needs. We received a survey from a behavioural specialist who offers the home support and advice, they said that the home was, Welcoming of advice from other agencies and Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 seek it out when necessary. We have not received any concerns or complaints about this home since the last inspection and the manager told us in the AQAA that there have been no complaints made to them in the past year either. They have found it necessary to made a safeguarding alert and have shown that they are able recognise abusive situations and that they are able to work within the local authorities safeguarding framework. All the information given to us indicates that this home continues to provide care that is person centred and the AQAA tells us that they are currently adopting a proactive approach to helping people to find work placements. We were also told that each person living in the home have had a deprivation of liberty assessment in place and that they will be reviewed as circumstances change. There were no requirements made at the last inspection and the AQAA shows us that the home recognises areas where they need to improve and sets out plans to make those improvements. The home continues to let us know about things that have happened since our last visit and they have shown that they have managed issues well. They work well with us and have shown us that their service continues to provide good outcomes for the people who use it. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We are not going to change our inspection plan, and will do a key inspection by 3rd December 2011. However we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people using the service. Annual Service Review Page 5 of 6 Reader Information
