What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for, since the last key inspection or annual service review. This included: The annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. Surveys had been returned to the commission by people using the service and from other people with an interest in the service. Information we have about how the service has managed any complaints. What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. The previous key inspection and the results of any other visits that we have made to the service in the last 12 months and relevant information from other organisations. Relevant information from other organisations. What other people have told us about the service. What has this told us about the service? The home sent us their annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) when we asked for it. It was clear and gave us all the information we asked for. We looked at the information in the AQAA and our judgement is that the home is still providing an excellent service. The AQAA told us that people who use the service benefit from detailed plans of care. The people who use the service are involved in the decision about planning care and they are reviewed on a monthly basis. We were also told that over the past year the menus have been developed to allow for choice and preference for the people using the service. A nite bite menu is also available for people who use the service so that they can select something to eat during the night if they are hungry. They told us that the home has a structured activities programme with a dedicated activities organiser. Weekend activities are also encouraged and supported by volunteers. The home has a good relationship with the local community and has a local club within their grounds. We were also advised that the home received thirteen complaints during the last year and three referrals to the local safeguarding adults team. People who completed surveys confirmed that they would know how to make a complaint. Staff that Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 completed the survey confirmed that their employer carried out the necessary checks required before they commenced their employment in the home, which protects the people using the service. We received some completed surveys from people using the elderly care unit and some staff members. One person told us when asked what could the home do better? they replied provide consistency with staff members assisgned to day to day duties. We were also told by one person food is taken in my room and service is generally rushed. Barely time to finish before meal is taken away or next course served. Other comments received said staff in many cases appear poorly trained for general duties, nursing care is better than food and activities are good, clothes could be tidied. One person said the staff provide high quality care. Staff that completed the surveys told us that the home attends to the personal needs of the individuals well and provides holistic care. They also told us that the home could improve by providing a safe and secure environment for the people living there and respect the residents as an individual and maintain safety at all time. All staff that completed the survey confirmed that they had received an induction and are well supported by the manager. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We are not going to change our inspection plan, and will do a key inspection by 12th June 2010. However we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people using the service. The date of the last key inspection for this service was 13th June 2007 Annual Service Review Page 5 of 6 Reader Information
