Annual Service Review Page 3 of 6 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review: What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at the information that we have received or asked for since the last annual service review. This included: The Annual Quality Assurance Assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. Information we have about how the service has managed complaints. What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. The previous key inspection report and any other visits that we have made to the service in the last twelve months. Relevant information from other organisations. What other people have told us about the service. What has this told us about the service? The home sent us their annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) when we asked for it. This was clear and gave us all the information we asked for. We looked at the information in the AQAA and our judgement is that the home is still providing an excellent service and they know what further improvements they need to make. The home continues to operate a structured admission procedure and only following a detailed needs assessment will residents be admitted to the home. The AQAA indicated that care plans and risk assessments are in place and are reviewed regularly. The AQAA indicated there there is a complaints procedure in place and that all residents and their relatives have access to a copy of this. There have been no complaints received by The Care Quality Commission regarding this service since the last Annual Service Review. The AQAA describes the activity arrangements in place to meet residents needs and expectations. A new shopping trolley service has been recently introduced which visits all units twice a week to promote shopping skills. Activities are displayed on the notice board weekly for residents information. There is an ongoing maintenance and refurbishment programme in place. Plans include the redecoration of communal areas of the home. Bedrooms are redecorated as and when required. New garden furniture has been provided for residents to enjoy. The AQAA indicated that there is a well established staff team in place to meet residents needs. Training is ongoing and mandatory training updated regularly. The manager stated that staff have undertaken training in how to avert a crisis, promote hearing awareness, and advanced dementia care. Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 Quality audits of the service are undertaken and surveys are sent to relatives, health care professionals and other people with an interest in the home for their feedback and comments. The manager stated that robust recruitment procedures are in place for the protection of residents. The home continues to inform The Care Quality Commission of any relevant evens that have occurred since the last key inspection and they have shown that they have managed issues well. They work well with The Care Quality Commission and have shown that their service continues to provide excellent outcomes for people who use it. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We are not going to change our inspection plan and will do a key inspection by 17th October 2010. However we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people using the service.
