What the care home does well Two people have been supported to move into their own flats and some others hope to move on to Supported Living in the future. The two new people who have moved in since the last inspection had been given information about the home and they were encouraged to visit and try out the service. To help a new person settle and feel as independent as possible it was arranged for him to have his own entrance and own garden shed. All feedback from people living in the home was positive. People told us they like the staff and feel they support them to be independent and listen to their views. People are encouraged to be independent. For example people all go out without staff support. Everyone is involved in cooking and keeping their own en-suite rooms and clothes clean. People are supported by Key members of staff who help them make choices and plan how they want to live their lives. Review meetings are held regularly to check people to working towards their personal goals. Each person has a busy life doing activities they have chosen to take part in. People told us they enjoy going on regular holidays and day trips. They all decided to buy a Wii recently out of a social fund and people are enjoying using this. Families and friends are made welcome in the home and people are supported to visitthose close to them if they wish to. People are assisted well with their personal and health care and all now have their own Health Action Plan. People are enabled to have a choice of healthy meals they like. The home enables people to live in an ordinary home and be part of the local community. The bungalow is very homely, clean, comfortable and safe. The home is well kept and has been improved by the addition of a large conservatory. Staff have good support from management and the team work well together to meet the needs of people in the home. They are offered regular training updates to help them do a good job. Feedback from staff was all very positive about the way the service is managed. A visiting health professional said Mrs Fletcher and the staff support their work with people and follow any advice given. Mrs Fletcher has the right skills and experience and the home is very well run in the best interests of the people living in the home. What the care home could do better: People living in the home would like more opportunities for employment. We found that staff are working hard to provide these within the local community with some recent success. This work should continue to try to help people fulfil their personal goals. Assessment of new people could be more in depth to ensure that plans are in place for all the person`s needs before they move in. We found that this had not been the case for one person, although regular support from professionals has now been arranged. A record should be kept of people`s possessions so their assets are protected. Random inspection report

We, the Commission, carried out this Random Inspection over three hours to check if the judgement made at the last Key Inspection, on 4th April 2007, is still correct. We concluded that this is the case and the outcomes for people using the service are still Excellent To check this we did the following things:- We looked at some records about peoples care, medication and money. We spoke to people living in the home about their lives and future plans. People showed us around their home. We spoke to a visiting health professional, staff and the manager, Mrs. Fletcher, about how the home is managed. Five of the six people living in the home and five staff gave us their views in surveys. Mrs. Fletcher sent information about the service to us before the visit in the Annual Quality Assurance Assessment. This told us what she thinks the service does well and what future plans there are.
