We give a quality rating following a full review of the service. We call this review a ‘key’ inspection We do an annual service review when there has been no key inspection of the service in the last 12 months. If yes, what have they been: Date of last key inspection: Date of last annual service review (if applicable): Brief description of the service Brockfield House Nursing Home is located within the small village of Stanwick, it is close to the larger towns of Rushden and Wellingborough. The home offers nursing care for up to 40 people over the age of 50 years with dementia or a mental illness. The home provides nursing care and has a registered nurse on duty 24 hours a day. The home has three floors, there is a passenger lift that provides easy access to these areas. There are two lounges and a lounge/dining room located on the ground floor. Annual Service Review Page 2 of 6 2 4 0 2 2 0 0 9 Some of the bedrooms are also located on the ground floor, further bedrooms are located on the first floor. The basement level contains the laundry and staff facilities. The home is situated within its own grounds and gardens and the residents have level access to the gardens for their enjoyment. At the front of the home there is a car park area and access to the home is either via the front door which has a flight of wide stairs with handrails or level access via a side entrance. The fees charged are variable being dependent on the individual assessment of need and personal funding arrangements. The service does admit people who are funded by Social Services. The maximum fees currently charged are £670.00 per week. Annual Service Review Page 3 of 6 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review: What did we do for this annual service review? The Annual Quality Assessments (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for the people using the service. It also gives us numerical information about the service. Surveys returned to us by the people using the service and from other people with an interest in the service. Information about how the service manages complaints. What the service has told us about the things that have happened in the service, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. The previous Key inspection and the results of other visits that we have made to the service in the last 12 months. Relevant information from other organisations. What other people have told us about the service. What has this told us about the service? The service sent is their AQAA when we asked for it. It was clear and gave us the information that we asked for. We looked at the information in the AQAA and our judgment is that the service continues to provide an excellent service to the people who use it. It also shows that the service continues to seek the views of the people who use the service and to make improvements to the service delivery. We have received completed surveys from four of the people who use the service, four from staff and one from a local general practitioner. All of the responses that we received were favorable. Specific comments from the people who live there included The staff have a caring attitude, patience and time to chat, there is a family atmosphere. The staff make it feel like a family home The home provides total care and there is nothing that they could do better The home has a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere, the staff are very friendly and efficient. There are regular meetings and everyone can have their say Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 Specific comments from the staff include We have excellent in house activities and most staff are NVQ qualified. We work well as a team. There have been improvements in the in house activities and outings. The staff work really well as a team and everyone is usually well informed about current events, peoples needs and their conditions. I feel that the home works really well and that the residents are happy with the staff and the environment. The service that is provided in all areas is excellent. There is no where they could improve, its a wonderful place to work. The GP commented The staff cope very well with challenging patients. The service continues to let us know about the things that have happened since our last Key Inspection and they have shown that they manage issues well. They work with us and have shown that their service continues to provide good outcomes for the people who use it. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? The next inspection of this service will be based on the Fees and Frequency Regulations 2007 and the assessment of risk of the service. Further clarity will become evident as the new registration and inspection system under the Health and Social Care Act 2008 is confirmed. However we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people who use the service.
