What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received about the care home since the last key inspection. This information included the homes Annual Quality Assurance Assessment (AQAA). This is a self-assessment document that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It was completed by the manager of the home. We also asked people who use the service to complete surveys for us. These surveys tell us what it is like for people using this service. We also looked at other information we have about the service. There have been no complaints made to CQC about this service. The home has told us about any events that have happened. These are called notifications and it is important that the home keeps us up-to-date on anything that affects the well being of people using the service. The home is good at keeping us informed of these events. We also look at the previous key inspection and any changes to the service since then. What has this told us about the service? The home sent us their Annual Quality Assurance Assessment (AQAA) when we asked for it. It was clear and gave us all the information we asked for. We looked at the information in the AQAA and our judgement is that the home is still providing a good service. It was detailed with evidence of how the home has improved since the last key inspection. The company has produced the Service User Guide in CD format and has a variety of language versions available on request. A sitting area has been created where families can make beverages. The newsletter has been re introduced in order to keep service users and their visitors involved. The garden area has been improved. A patio has been created and the furniture improved. Several areas of the home have been refurbished with the replacement of carpets and furniture. The home have received one complaint which was handled as per the company policy. However from the surveys returned people indicated that they did not know how to make a complaint. The manager should make sure that people know the process to follow. People who returned surveys indicated that they are happy with the care they receive and that staff are normally available when they need them. They said that the activities are suitable and that they like the food. Comments when asked what the home does well included, The attitude of staff and the willingness to help, even at the times they are short staffed.Gives very professional care. Everything. The care and kindness my relative is receiving is fantastic. When asked what the home could do better comments included I dont know what they could do that they arent already doing. They constantly seem to go the extra mile and for that I will always be grateful. and Not a lot really. Professionals who returned surveys also indicated that they are satisfied with the care provided. Resounding to the question about what the home does well comments included, I am very satisfied with the service provided. Involves families whenever necessary. Staff who returned surveys confirmed that they feel they have enough support, Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 experience and knowledge to meet the different needs of the people who live in the home. Comments included, Has good quality care for all residents, good communication between all staff levels. It provides the help, guidance, support and information people need. However several of the surveys indicated that there are not enough bank staff to cover sickness. The home continues to let us know about things that have happened since our last key inspection and they have shown that they continue to improve the service for the people who live here. In this way they have shown us that their service continues to provide good outcomes for the people who use it. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We are not going to change our inspection plan, and will do a key inspection by 2 February 2012. However we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people living here. Annual Service Review Page 5 of 6 Reader Information
