What the care home does well

The manager achieved registration with the Commission in February 2010 and has the required qualifications and experience to run the home and meets its stated aims and objectives. In the absence of the manager we were ably assisted by a care worker and it was apparent that the manager was able to describe a clear vision and communicated a clear sense of direction for the service as demonstrated by staff and also confirmed in limited discussions with some of the residents. It was evident that the way the home is run shows an understanding of people`s needs in respect of diversity and equality in all of its component parts. The organisation has comprehensive quality assurance systems in place to ensure that the needs of people are being met and that care is person centred. Robust staff recruitment procedures are in place as are procedures for the ongoing support and training of staff members. The views of residents, relatives, staff and health/social care professionals are listened to and valued. Currently there are no safeguarding issues at the service, and the organisation has efficient systems to ensure effective safeguarding and management of residents` money and valuables. Working practices in the home are safe as evidenced by good monitoring and record keeping systems. Staff demonstrated a good understanding of risk assessment processes which were underpinned by the promotion of independence, choice and autonomy. This remains an excellent service.

The premises are two joined together semidetached houses that are a short walk away from the shops and transport links of Romford town centre. Each resident has their own well-furnished bedroom, and share the homely communal rooms. Care Homes for Adults (18-65 years) Page 3 of 7 What we found: This was an unannounced random inspection undertaken in line with the Commissions current guidance on inspecting excellent services. The service had provided a comprehensive annual quality assurance assessment and a decision was made to look at the management and administration of the home in view of the fact that the manager had recently been registered with the Commission. As part of this visit we were unable to speak with the manager who was not on duty, but were able to speak with several of the residents and staff. We also looked at some records including notifications, the annual quality assurance assessment and safeguarding.
