What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for, since the last key inspection. This included: The annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service. This was looked at and the information provided taken into account. The AQAA is a self-assessment that informs us about outcomes for people who use the service. As well as other information, it also tells us what the service has done within the previous 12 months, what they think they are doing well and how they could develop and their plans to do so in the next 12 months. Surveys were provided to people who use the service and to staff that work for the service. We looked at information we have about how the service has managed any complaints. We considered what the service has told us about things that have happened in the service. These are called notifications and are a legal requirement. We looked at the history of the service by reflecting on previous inspection outcomes. Any other relevant information from other organisations was considered along with what other people have told us about the service. What has this told us about the service? The home sent us their AQAA on time. The assessment was clear and gave us all the information we asked for. We looked at the information in the AQAA and our judgment is that the home is still providing a good service and that they know what their plans for further improvement are over the next 12 months. Five surveys were returned by people living at the home. Because people living at the home have dementia, their relatives had completed the surveys on their behalf. Surveys confirmed that people were satisfied with the overall quality of care provided. People said they always(4) or usually(1) got the personal care, medical care and support they needed, staff always(3) or usually(2) listened and acted on what they said and they were able to make choices about how to live their lives. Comments included:- Wellcroft has offered X a very high standard of care and regularly reviews her needs and adjusts her care plan accordingly. We are kept informed and consulted about our mothers care and feel that there is a partnership. The staff are exceptional in their commitment and kindness when caring for X. Xs personal care needs are met in a way that maintains her dignity and privacy. The staff at Wellcroft care for X in a professional and gentle manner. Her physical and mental needs are identified and met. Staff are well supervised and approachable at all times. We are always made welcome and put at ease by the staff. Very impressed at the way they decorated the home at Halloween and Christmas. We have attended several parties - a barbecue in the summer - a party for Xs 90th birthday Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 and a Christmas party when the staff wore fancy dress. Nothing is too much trouble for them. The home is kept in good condition and always clean. Lovely decor. Smart and tidy. Smells pleasant. Dining and lounge area bright and cheerful. Laundry service excellent. The staff provide good all round care from manager, senior carers to junior carers. All are considerate and respectful to both residents and their relatives. X is happy and well cared for and our time with her is now quality time. Three staff also returned surveys. They confirmed that they were given training that supported them in their roles and were seen regularly by the manager to discuss how they were working. In the AQAA the manager reported that 76 of care staff at the home had successfully completed National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) training. We have received no complaints about this service. Looking at all the evidence available to us, our judgment is that there is no reason to change the current rating of the home. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? The Care Quality Commission will continue to monitor information about this service and will carry out an inspection when required. Annual Service Review Page 5 of 6 Reader Information
