What the care home could do better:

The range and depth of safeguarding training required of staff could be more accurately recorded to reflect the good practise that is taking place. Time was spent with the manager, the training co-ordinator and the maintenance manager. Both verbal and documentary evidence was provided that confirmed that staff training is of a high standard and that all levels of staff are included according to their role and responsibilities. Safeguarding of vulnerable adults training was wide ranging and updates covered the same topics as for the induction of new staff. There had been a considerable improvement in the updating of staff training since the appointment of the current training co-ordinator. The maintenance manager was well informed about the risks associated with health and safety legislation and procedures and how these could be minimised. A wide range of regular checks is undertaken to ensure the well being and safety of service users and staff is upheld and these checks are documented. Fire drills are conducted at least once per month and staff training is accurately recorded and regularly updated. The vast majority of staff are trained to fire marshall standard. Documentary evidence of equipment maintenance and servicing was provided. Complaints are recorded comprehensively and are low in number.
