What the care home does well
The staff are good at ensuring residents are supported to take an active part in the running of their own lives. The home was found to do most things well. The home has a real feel of being the residents` home and they are very relaxed living there.
What has improved since the last inspection?
The home now has leadership and direction from the recent appointment of the manager. As stated in the introduction a manager has been appointed as the Sector Manager for the three services in Alexandra Road. She will be making an application to the CSCI to become the registered manager of all three services 19,25 & 27 Alexandra Road. The manager is reviewing the care plans of all residents and Person Centred Planning (PCP) is in the process of being introduced.
What the care home could do better:
The EVH organisation must ensure the home continues to be well maintained, as the home is showing signs of wear and tear and it is recommended that the Responsible Individual should ensure there is a programme of routine maintenance, repair and decorating to ensure the home is always in good decorative order. The kitchen is in need of replacement and decoration, the residents and the manager informed the inspector that they had been told by the Senior Management Team that there are plans to upgrade the kitchen, but they did not know when this work would be carried out. There is a concern that for residents to fully meet their potential, aspirations and changing needs, staffing levels should be reviewed. The staffing levels within the home were discussed with the individual staff and the manager, and there is evidence of staff working long hours to cover the shifts.
