Inspection on 04/10/06 for Waters View Residential Home

Also see our care home review for Waters View Residential Home for more information

This inspection was carried out on 4th October 2006.

CSCI has not published a star rating for this report, though using similar criteria we estimate that the report is Good. The way we rate inspection reports is consistent for all houses, though please be aware that this may be different from an official CSCI judgement.

The inspector found there to be outstanding requirements from the previous inspection report but made no statutory requirements on the home.

What follows are excerpts from this inspection report. For more information read the full report on the next tab.

What the care home does well

The home offers a good standard of care and support to service users in a well- maintained environment. They receive good meals with daily choices available. Service users have a stimulating and varied life at the home supported by a team of carers who are trained or who are undertaking training. Comments received from service users and visitors indicated that they were made aware of changes to the service and are encouraged to comment on proposed changes.

What has improved since the last inspection?

The home has almost completed a programme of decoration and refurbishment to the ground floor communal areas. A new cooker has been purchased and the safe keeping of service users monies has been improved. Following a requirement made at the home`s last inspection visit all hot water outlets accessed by service users, are now controlled by pre-set valves. The Service Users Guide has been updated to include information relating to the special needs or interests that prospective service users may have and the Acting Managers experience and qualifications. Care planning has been further developed with some plans now containing health and welfare needs that had been omitted during the planning process.

What the care home could do better:

Further work is required to the home`s quality assurance system to draw together the information received from the people surveyed, and a report of the findings published, indicating the changes and actions taken to address the issues that would help to improve the service provided. Although service users` care plans have been improved to some extent, further work is required to ensure that all areas of need highlighted during the assessment process are included the plan of care. National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) training should be further promoted to provide sufficient numbers of care staff that are qualified. The Registered Provider must appoint an individual to manage the home who is experienced, competent and qualified.
