What the care home does well
Pre-admission assessments are generally well completed. This means that care plans can be developed to meet the needs of individual residents. Information given to relatives prior to admission is of a good standard. So that people can make an informed choice about going to live at Appleby. Statutory training levels for staff are well maintained. So that staff are able to give the appropriate care to the residents. The management of residents finances are good. Staff supervision records are good ensuring that staff have on-going support.
What has improved since the last inspection?
The downstairs corridors have been redecorated new carpets have been fitted. Residents bedrooms are being redecorated as part of a rolling programme. This is improving the environment for residents.
What the care home could do better:
More work needs to be done to identify residents previous lifestyles, interests and hobbies so that better social care plans can be written. Menus need to be improved to include supper options and to show what the ingredients of sandwiches are. This will allow residents to make real choices about the food that they eat. Client centred training must be provided for all care staff employed in the home. To improve the individualised care given. The homes aspirator must be checked to ensure its safe working, records of these checks must be kept. More needs to be done to make bathrooms and toilets more homely.
