Annual Service Review Page 3 of 6 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review: What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for, since the last key inspection or annual service review. This included: The annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. Information we have about how the service has managed any complaints. What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. The previous key inspection and the results of any other visits that we have made to the service in the last 12 months. Relevant information from other organisations. What other people have told us about the service. What has this told us about the service? The home sent us their annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) when we asked for it. We contacted the home on 29th September 2009 and received an update on developments since they sent us this. We also undertook a random inspection on 30th January 2009. The home manager had notified us of a medication error that resulted in the one person taking medication that was not theirs. When we visited we made two requirements about training and administration in medication. We kept in contact and checked with the service that these had been met. No further medication errors have occurred since that time. We looked at the information in the AQAA and our judgement is that the home is still providing the same level of service at this time. Management of the home stated that improvements that have been made over the past 12 months include: The results of their quality assurance survey included 94 of relatives and residents who responded would recommend Beaumont Park to others, also over 50 stated that the home has exceeded their expectations The Home has also introduced Dignity Champions to ensure that the residents are offered at all times the best care possible and that we meet all their needs in accordance with their wishes. All nursing and care staff are currently undergoing Deprivation of Liberties Training Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 The home has introduced hens into the garden and the clients are fully involved in the development of this project. The presence of the hens has been very fulfilling for some of the people who live at the home, many of whom kept hens during their lives. Management has commenced the replacement of nursing beds with specialised profiling beds. Also new bedroom furniture has been purchased and is being installed. The home keeps us informed of incidents and accidents through the regulation 37 notification process, and update us on outcomes as they occur. We received no concerns in this reviewing period. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We are not going to change our inspection plan, and will do a key inspection by September 2010. However we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people using the service.
