CQC found this care home to be providing an Adequate service.

The inspector found there to be outstanding requirements from the previous inspection report but made no statutory requirements on the home.

What the care home does well

Service users interviewed presented as settled and happy with the support being provided. Full key inspection of this 1 star service is scheduled for later this year.

What the care home could do better:

Maintain on-site management cover for 7 days a week. Relocate staff records to Canonbie- this has been actioned. Maintain vigilance with CRB and recruitment checks.

Since this date, the home has been owned by Jonathan Davids Ltd, the responsible individual being Mr Ade-Odunlade. Since the departure of the previous (registered) manager, Ms Adenike Ogunleye, in June 2009, the home has been managed by an acting manager, Ms Adeola Fapohundra. Care Homes for Adults (18-65 years) Page 2 of 8 0 6 1 0 2 0 0 8 Brief description of the care home The home is situated in a converted house in a quiet residential road in Forest Hill, and provides accomodation for up to 6 service users. The home is close to local bus routes, and is within a mile of both Honor Oak and Forest Hill railway stations. Service users have sufficient bathroom and toilet facilities, and have access to a communal lounge and kitchen. There is a garden at the rear. Care Homes for Adults (18-65 years) Page 3 of 8 What we found: We visited initially on 12 August, no staff records to view, informed that these were being held at Head Office. On return visit, on 24 August, staff records had subsequently been transferred to Canonbie, being securely stored in lockable cabinets. Inspection of staff recruitment records for 5 new staff members indicated that recruitment checks are being satisfactorily completed. For one staff member, CRB is pending, POVA and other checks having been completed. Received assurance from acting manager that staff member is under supervision and does not have any unsupervised 1 to 1 contact with service users. Staff rotas examined, indicating that 2 staff members are on at all times. Discussed management cover. With appointment of new deputy manager, assured that there will be on-site management cover for 7 days a week. Present arrangements not felt to be sufficiently full proof, with on-call cover from Friday to Sunday. The complaints procedure (copy of which was posted on the notice board) needs to be updated, to include the contact details for CQC. Present one gives out-of date CSCI details. Spoke with 3 residents, all of whom presented as settled and happy with the support being provided. So as to ensure that the clients mental health and support needs are being met. 3 20 13 For clients to be sufficiently protected from medication errors, all staff must undertake accredited medication training. To protect clients and staff from any infection from the watwer supply. 6 42 13 So as to evidence that clients 31/10/2008 and staff are being protected from the risk of fire, the Homes responsible individual must ensure that a record of all the Homes fire drills is maintained.
