This is an overview of what the inspector found during the inspection. This is the second inspection to be undertaken in the Commission for Social Care Inspection year April 2005 to March 2006. This announced inspection took place on the 5th September 2005. The first part of the inspection was spent reviewing service users records including random 10 financial records, checking policies and procedures, relating to the care and management of the service users. The second part was spent speaking with service users, relatives visiting the home, the Chef, and care workers. This was followed by a tour of the home and gardens. Both service users and their relatives informed the inspector that they are very happy with the standard of care in the home. One service user said he sometimes has to wait for some one to answer his bell, but he is always given an explanation for the delay. The inspector formed the opinion that both service users and their relatives were happy and confident in the care offered and delivered by the home. What the service does well: What has improved since the last inspection?
The home has acquired its own transport in the form of a small van capable of transporting mostly goods for the home and one service user and driver. Four new pressure mattresses have been purchased for the use of service users. A new bingo set with rotating balls has been purchased, and the staff along with the help of the service users have began a card group.

This is evident from the positive relationships, which, have been formed between the care workers and the service users. EVIDENCE: Service users spoken were unanimous in their praise for the staff. The home is without an Activity Coordinator, but service users were quick to inform the inspector that the staff improvised. The inspector was informed that one care worker takes in her Karioke and the service users and staff have a good sing a-long and dance to the music. Also the staff and service users have started a card game, and one service user said she particularly likes the whist sessions. The inspector was informed that a good many of the service users go out to lunch with their relatives. During the tour of the home the inspector met one service user and her family who were returning to the home following lunch at the local garden centre. Review of the menu for the week and for the day demonstrated a good and wide variety of foods being served to the service users. The Commission considers Standards 33, 35 and 38 the key standards to be inspected at least once during a 12 month period. JUDGEMENT – we looked at outcomes for standard(s) 35 Written records of transactions are maintained, but this is in a haphazard way. EVIDENCE: Service users and their families are responsible for service users finance. However, each service user has a small amount of pocket money that is kept by the home. Random sample review of service users finance revealed that each service user’s finance is kept separately and is locked away. Records of outgoing payments are haphazard and do not allow easy tracking. A requirement was issued on this standard.
