Care Homes for Older People Page 3 of 9 What we found: Two inspectors visited Charnwood unannounced on 22 February 2010. The purpose of the visit was to check compliance with the four requirements made following our key inspection on 1 December 2009. The outcome is as follows: Requirement 1 All of the staff who work at the home must receive training about safeguarding. No staff have received training about safeguarding since the key inspection. Requirement 2 The registered person must provide enough staff to ensure that the needs of the people living at the home can be met. There are eight people living at the home with varying levels of care needs. One person is looked after in bed due to her frail condition. The owner manager told us that another of the residents is now terminally ill. The owner/manager told us that there is no written staff rota. The owner/manager said that she works four nights a week and the deputy manager works three nights a week. In addition there is one full-time care assistant who works approximately 50 hours a week, one part-time care assistant working two days a week, and another part-time care assistant who is currently absent. There is an administrator who works three days a week and a chef who makes some of the evening meals. The owner/manager showed us two completed application forms from people who are interested in working at Charnwood. Requirement 3 All of the people working at the home must have a Criminal Records Bureau check. We saw Criminal Records Bureau disclosures for the three care assistants only. Requirement 4 All staff working at the home must receive training appropriate to the work they perform There was no record of any staff training since 2005, however the owner/manager told us that there are other training certificates that have been archived in the garage. There is also an outstanding requirement from an inspection carried out on 11 May 2009: People must not be allowed to work at the home until all pre-employment checks have been verified and returned. We saw no references for a care assistant who started working at the home in 2008, and no personnel information at all for the homes administrator.
