What the care home could do better:

Care Homes for Older People Page 3 of 8 What we found: Two inspectors conducted a site visit where we concentrated on the concerns reported to us. These were relating to the care of residents who had scabies and the general care of more vulnerable residents. We found that there was confusion relating to the care of people who had scabies. The home had conflicting advice from health care professionals resulting in confusion on who was admitted to the home to visit or carry on other business. Some families were told not to visit and their relative did not have a visit for at least three weeks. We were told that this had caused distress to both the residents and their families, friends and representatives. The manager assured us that this would not happen again and that she would write to all the families affected immediately. Had we not received this assurance we would have left an immediate requirement. We were told by the manager that there was not sufficient staff in the home who understood the heritage of the residents and that they had undertaken to resolve this as soon as possible. Three people had recently being interviewed whom the manager considered suitable. We observed lunch in the area of the home where people who have a dementia are cared for. We saw that their food was transported from the kitchen in a trolley that did not have a facility for heating food. All the courses were transported at the same time. We tasted the food and found it was cold. When we asked staff about this and how they would serve it they were unable to answer us. We also found that there was loose flooring in that area and that the floor was dirty. We have been told by the home that all of the issues we raised have been addressed.
