What the care home does well
The home provides prospective people wishing to live at the home and their representatives with suitable information about the home. It carries out detailed assessments to ensure they are able to meet the individual`s needs. Excellent opportunities are provided for people to visit and `test drive` the home. The home is homely, nicely decorated and furnished to a high standard. The ladies` bedrooms are personalised to their own taste. Staff ensure the ladies on-going welfare and health care needs are identified and appropriately addressed. Ladies are supported to follow their individual lifestyles and maintain relationships with their family and friends. The ladiesliving at the home are actively encouraged to express their views about their individual care, personal goals and the day-to-day running of the home. The ladies are helped to choose their own meals, go shopping for food, help in the kitchen to prepare and cook the food that they have bought. The ladies are treated in a respectful manner by staff, this ensures that their self-esteem and dignity are maintained. Staff recruitment is robust and should ensure that people are safe from unsuitable people working at the home. Staff receive training which ensures that they are knowledgeable and skilled in meeting the needs of the people living in the home.
What has improved since the last inspection?
This is the homes first inspection under its new management. The new management have identified a number of areas that this wish to further develop, for example giving the ladies more involvement in their support plan, more involvement in daily life within a home by answering their front door, cooking in the kitchen and gardening. These new and developing initiatives will help to provide the people living in the home with a good quality of life.
What the care home could do better:
The new management needs to continue to focus upon staff training and a record of training undertaken is available. A formal process needs to be place to assist the home in reporting back to people who live in the home, relatives, social care and health care workers in response to the views and opinions the home receives from these people.
