What the care home does well

The home has developed robust systems for assessment and care planning. Records viewed evidenced that individual service users are supported to achieve goals and aspirations. Service users have access to a range of activities both in house and community based. All service users are involved in planning their care in conjunction with assessed needs and aspirations. The manager and staff all demonstrated care and commitment to providing a quality service for the people living at the home. This was evident through observation and in the detail provided in care planning and health records.

What has improved since the last inspection?

The external grounds have been made safe for service users. The manager stated that the frequency of staff supervision has improved.

What the care home could do better:

The home needs to ensure they record how service users make decisions and choices. Service users would benefit if they were given 1-1 time to talk about their care plans and their experiences of living at the home. This could be done with their keyworker. The staff and management at the home must ensure that they address the current communication difficulties within the team. Frequency of staff meetings must improve. The home must hold at least six staff meetings per year. Staff would benefit from have regular and focussed supervision and from having annual appraisals. Quality assurance systems at the home need to be more robust. The home would benefit from gaining stakeholders views of the home, and in ensuring that Regulation 26 visits are undertaken.
