Annual Service Review Page 3 of 6 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review: What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for, since the last key inspection. This included: The Annual Quality Assurance Assessment (AQQA) that was sent to us by the service. The AQQA is a self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. Information we have about how the service has managed any complaints. What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. The previous key inspection and the results of any other visits that we have made to the service in the last 12 months. Relevant information from other organisations. What other people have told us about the service What has this told us about the service? The home returned the Annual Quality Assessment (AQAA). It identified areas that have improved in the last year, and others where further developments are either planned or would benefit residents. This included evidence that the service seeks the views of residents and other stakeholders. In some parts of the AQAA information was not detailed enough to evidence how the service achieves the required outcomes for the people and other sections were not completed. Further detail and completion of all of the information is therefore required when submitting the next AQAA. The last inspection was carried out on 13th February 2007 when the judgement rating for the home was 3 star, excellent. This means that the people who live in the home receive excellent care outcomes. The last report was very positive and no requirements were made. The people who live in the home were positive about the service they were receiving, with positive comments also from relatives and other stakeholders. The previous Annual Service Reveiw was carried out on 28th August 2008, at that time it was assesed that no changes were to be made to the inpsection plan. The AQQA indicated a range of areas where improvements have been made in the last year, for example as a result of listening to the people, the service has reviewed the menus in line with their wishes. Information on the Mental Capacity Act and Deprivation of Liberty has been included in the homes brochure and as part of the admission procedure. Client profiles and case records have been introduced into the peoples paperwork. More staff have received Safeguarding training and the home plans to provide NVQ Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 training so that the whole staff group achieve the award. The Registered Manager of the home, Shelagh Lewis, has been in post for several years and the service continues to have a low turnover of staff which provides continuity of care for the people who live in the home. The service continues with the programme of updating the home to improve the high standard and since the previous inspection they have updated ten bedrooms. The home continues to let us know about things that have happened since our last key inspection and they have shown that they have managed issues well. There have been no complaints since the last inspection and no issues or concerns have been forwarded to the Commission. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? There will be no change to the inspection plan, and the Commission will do a key inspection by 8th January 2010. However, we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people using the service.
