This inspection was carried out on 4th October 2006.

CSCI has not published a star rating for this report, though using similar criteria we estimate that the report is Good. The way we rate inspection reports is consistent for all houses, though please be aware that this may be different from an official CSCI judgement.

The inspector made no statutory requirements on the home as a result of this inspection and there were no outstanding actions from the previous inspection report.

What the care home does well

Milkwood House offers a clean, comfortable and homely environment for the people who live there.The staff team are committed, well supported and trained and residents say that they are kind and caring. The people living in the home say they are pleased with their personal rooms and are complimentary about the meals provided. A range of activities is available and there is a mini-bus for outings. Records are kept in good order and both residents and the staff team speak highly of the skills and commitment of the registered manager.

What has improved since the last inspection?

To ensure the safety of residents at all times, magnetic closures have been fitted to the bedrooms of people who like to keep their doors open. Medication recording has improved and outstanding health and safety issues resolved. There is a programme of redecoration and improvement underway and a large wide-screen had been added to the main lounge

What the care home could do better:

To ensure that service user healthcare needs are fully met, agreements should be documented and risk assessments compiled for the use of cot sides.
