Annual Service Review Page 3 of 6 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review: What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at the information that we have received, or asked for, since the last key inspection in February 2009. This included: The annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gives us numerical information about the service. Any surveys returned to us by service users and others with an interest in the service. Any information we have received about how the service has managed any complaints. What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service. These are called notifications and are a legal requirement. The previous key inspection and any action taken in response to requirements or recommendations made within the previous inspection report. What has this told us about the service? The annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA), was returned late by the manager, but provided current details about the home including areas where action has been taken to make improvements. The manager reported that since the last inspection a range of improvements had been made in direct response to resident feedback. For example the installation of air conditioning in the kitchen and lounge; implementation of a three week written menu incorporating service user preferences and an increased activities programme. New lounge tables have also been purchased and hospital beds have been accessed where needed. Other changes reported since the last inspection include improvements to recording, greater involvement of residents in reviewing their care plan, revision of risk assessments, and improved involvement of external professionals. The Skills for Care induction system has been introduced and training has been provided to staff on the needs of residents with diabetes. All staff have either attained or are working towards their NVQ at level 2 or 3. Senior staff have received supervision training. Additional equipment has been purchased for the home, and the home has retained its four star environmental health hygiene award. The home now has a large screen TV and broadband is now available to residents. The AQAA also indicates a range of planned improvements for the future. There were no requirements arising from the last inspection. Since the last inspection, no notifications have been made to the Commission, regarding reportable events. Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 The completed AQAA indicated that no new complaints had been received about the service in the last twelve months. No complaints about this home have been received by the Commission, for forwarding to the service, since the last inspection. There are reported to have been no safeguarding referrals relating directly to this home since the last inspection. The AQAA indicates a responsive service, which consults residents as part of personcentred planning, as well as through residents meetings and questionnaires. Residents family are also invited to the residents meetings. Our judgement is that the home continues to provide a good service to meet the needs of residents, and provides good outcomes for residents. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We will not change our inspection plan, and will undertake the next key inspection by the 13th of February 2011. However, we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of residents Annual Service Review Page 5 of 6 Reader Information Document Purpose: Author: Audience: Further copies from: Annual service review CQC General Public 0870 240 7535 (national contact centre) Our duty to regulate social care services is set out in the Care Standards Act 2000.
