This inspection took place on Wednesday 3rd December between 14:30 and 15:30. The purpose of the inspection was to monitor the response to requirements made at the previous Random inspection, which took place on 1st October 2008. The acting manager for the service was on sick leave so we spoke with one of the Directors of the company who also works at the home as a support worker. We also spoke to the Responsible Individual Karen Ferrie by telephone. This inspection has also been informed by the records of safeguarding meetings held with the local authority and discussions with the chair of the meeting as to the services response. The service has reviewed the assessment process to ensure that fuller information is received about people before they come to live in the home. This will include trial visits to the home and the completion of in-house assessment documents. Information about the assessment process is to be included in the homes statement of purpose. From this assessment process an initial support plan will be put in place. There have been no admissions to the service since the previous random inspection so we were unable to see the practical application of these plans. The staff rota was examined and corresponded to the people found to be working at the home at the time of the inspection. All staff records were examined. Each staff members start date was recorded and all staff members had appropriate Criminal Records Bureau checks in place and had completed an application form, giving their previous employment history. One staff member, currently working in the home as a handy man, only had one written reference on file. Notes of disciplinary action taken were recorded on staff members files.
