Annual Service Review Page 2 of 5 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review: What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for, since the last key inspection held on 17th September 2007. This included:- The annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. What the home has told us about things that have happened in the service, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. The previous key inspection and the results of any other visits that we have made to the service in the last 12 months. Relevant information from other organisations. What other people have told us about the service. Surveys returned to us from people using the service and staff members. What has this told us about the service? The home sent us their annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) when we asked for it. The home told us that the people living in the home are in control of all aspects of their lives and the day to day running of the home, development of policies and procedures and future development. There is a quality assurance system in place and people are issued with surveys so they can express their opinions on the service they receive. Each person living in the home has an individual plan which sets out individual needs and how these should be met. The manager stated that plans are developed with each person and updated daily if necessary. The home now have two members of staff who are trained as person centred plan facilitators who encourage people living in the home to use the person centred plan effectively. People are encouraged to attend monthly reviews and write up the notes afterwards. Staff support people to attend activities of their choice. These include beauty treatments, local social club, swimming, college and religious activities. They are also supported to go on holiday every year. People are encouraged to be as independent as possible and are supported to plan and prepare meals, to clean their own rooms and do their laundry. The home said people living in the home are encouraged to lead fulfilling lives and they are well supported by staff to take calculated risks. The home has been adapted to meet the changing needs of the people who live there which include an arm level oven, microwave with large buttons, walk in showers etc. The management continue to improve the premises and ensure all areas are kept to a Annual Service Review Page 3 of 5 high standard. The staff are well trained to meet the individual needs of the people living in the home and there is a robust recruitment and selection process in place to help protect people from harm. The manager said the staff receive formal supervision on a monthly basis and their training needs are fully discussed. Surveys returned by the people living in the home were positive. Comments included:I do a lot of things on my own. Not told what to do. Everybody helps me and I do anything I want. Staff comments included: The manager takes time to listen to her staff team. Provides the best quality training. It is a fantastic place to work. The home continues to let us know about things that have happened since our last key inspection. They work well with us and have shown us that their service continues to provide good outcomes for the people who use it. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? Our judgement is that the home continues to provide a good service. We are not going to change our inspection plan and will do a key inspection by 1st October 2010. We shall continue to remain in contact with the service. However we can still inspect the service at any time, and shall do if we have any concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people using the service.
