We looked at care plans for two people living at the home. Both of these contained more information than at the previous inspection, although they still need to be written with more personal information. For example, what food likes and dislikes people have if they have difficulty eating. The care plans we looked at had been reviewed every month, but there was no information in the review to show how the decision of no change had been made. People are referred to health care professionals for treatment and advice and this information is available to staff in the care records. We were not able to fully assess if the requirement regarding medication. There were no handwritten medication administration records (MAR), although the MAR sheets were completed to an acceptable standard. Storage area temperatures are recorded, although the drug fridge temperature was at too high a level to safely store medication that needed refrigeration. Staff told us that there was no medication being used at the time of the inspection that required this. Training records show that all staff members have received training in safeguarding vulnerable adults. No complaints have been made to the home since the last inspection and we, therefore, could not assess this area. Staff have received supervision twice since the last inspection, this is recorded and available in each staff members file. What the care home does well: What they could do better:
Care plans must contain more personal information about people, so that staff members are able to give the care that person wants. When care plans are reviewed they must show how the decision had been made. This is so that staff members consider everything about the person before deciding whether the care plan needs changing or not. The medication fridge should be run at a temperature that ensures the safe storage of medication. If its not in use, it should be switched off, but not run at a temperature too high to safely store medication.
