What the care home does well
Staff and managers are seen as friendly and approachable. Activities provided are well attended and much enjoyed by residents. The care and health needs of residents are being met. The standard of accommodation provided is good, and the home is clean and well maintained. Good arrangements are in place for prospective residents and their relatives to visit the home before admission and for qualified nurses to carry out an assessment of needs before admission is agreed. Staff are receiving training which is assisting them in carrying out the work they do. Arrangements are in place to monitor and inspect the safety of the premises and the equipment in use.
What has improved since the last inspection?
Improvements to the service since the previous inspection include the development and use of a form for pre-admission nursing assessments, and by the practice of pre-admission assessment visits always being carried out by a trained nurse. A visiting dental service has now been arranged for residents. Improvements to the premises include the external redecoration and the painting of windows. A contractor has provided a "deep clean" to improve hygiene and clean air in the kitchen. The home has invested in a number of teaching aids (videos, books, packs) for use in staff training. Suggestions have been made by residents, relatives and visitors that it would be helpful for staff to wear name badges, and this has been taken up and staff have been provided with new name badges. Requirements made at the previous inspection are now assessed as met.
What the care home could do better:
There is a need for the care plan to include the resident`s social care needs, and to advise staff how the resident wishes his or her care to be provided. Residents would benefit from more fresh fruit and vegetables being provided. Some updating of the adult protection procedures needs to be carried out to reflect current good practice and local procedures.
