What the care home does well
Hazel House benefits from a committed manager and team. Systems are robust and complaints are listened to and acted on in a positive manner. Service users comments demonstarte any necessary action is taken speedily to ensure that a quality service continues to be delivered to vulnerable service users. Detailed care and risk assessments have been completed in the new care planning. New staff complete comprehensive induction training, which includes shadowing experienced care workers. Both mandatory and specialist training sessions are provided by the home. As an example of the very positive attitude to training within the organistation, all staff will have completed NVQ training by April 2007. Evidence received from care staff indicates that they feel well supported by the management team, and ther is an appropriate consultation process. Feedback from service users was equally positive, one stated (staff) "understand what I need. I have good days and bad days and she helps me sort things out and helps me get the treatment I need."
What has improved since the last inspection?
The home has been refurbished with new lights and call system; in addition several bedrooms and communal areas have been redecorated over recent months. The staff team have supported services users appropriately whilst the work was underway and tried to ensure the disruption was kept at a minimum, by supporting service users on annual holiday during the worst of the building works.
