This unannounced random inspection was carried out over two days, 23 and 30 December 2009. These visits were made as a result of concerns being raised with the CQC about the way accidents were being managed within the home. We reviewed accident and care records and spoke with some members of staff. We found that in the case of one person that the accident reporting form had not been completed. However there was evidence within the care records that the person had told staff that she had had a fall. This person complained of pain over a period of time and was subsequently found to have a fractured shoulder. Staff told the inspector that they had not completed a form because the fall had not been witnessed. Whilst looking at the care records, we saw that several people had not had their care plans evaluated and updated following a fall or on a monthly basis to make sure that all of their changing needs were being met. One person had not had their plans reviewed since September 2009 and another since October 2009. In addition one person who had been admitted in early November 2009 had no risk assessments or care plans in place. It was therefore impossible to determine whether all of the needs of this person were being met. What the care home does well: What they could do better: If you want to know what action the person responsible for this care home is taking following this report, you can contact them using the details set out on page 2.
