Care Homes for Older People Page 3 of 7 What we found: We visited the home following concerns which had been raised about the safety and welfare of people living at the home. We wanted to make sure that the home was following the correct procedures for managing concerns. We saw that the home has clear policies for reporting any possible neglect or abuse, and staff told us that they knew who to speak to if they had any concerns. We saw that a recent incident had been dealt with by the manager in line with the local multi-agency guidelines, and in accordance with the homes policy and procedure. Whilst looking around the home, we saw what appeared to be a discarded tablet on the floor of the lounge. The manager agreed with us that this was indeed almost certainly part of someones medication, which they had not swallowed and which had dropped onto the floor. The manager told us that she will reiterate to all staff that they must ensure that medication has been swallowed. This is especially important when people have a dementia illness and may not find it easy to take their medication.
