What the care home does well
Wetley Manor provides a comfortable and attractive home, suited to the needs of its elderly residents. There are spacious and appealing communal rooms, which enjoy lovely views of the gardens and distant countryside. All bedrooms are occupied for single use and all have an en suite. Some of the bedrooms have direct access to the garden and many are well in excess of the size requirements of the National Minimum Standards. All of the random sample of bedrooms visited during this inspection were nicely decorated, personalised to a high standard and well equipped. All of the residents occupying these rooms confirmed to the Inspector that they were very satisfied with the comfort, personal space and privacy afforded by their bedrooms, which they are able to use freely and according to personal choice. The conduct of staff throughout the inspection was noted by the Inspector as being competent, caring and confident in their duties. Observations of staff and resident interactions were positive and friendly and there was much evidence of a friendly rapport and mutual respect of each other. Without exception all comments received from residents and visitors alike about the conduct of staff were very complimentary. In discussions with staff about their care of residents, the Inspector was impressed with both their knowledge and their thoughtfulness. The Inspector was able to have lunch with residents and this opportunity confirmed the many positive comments that residents had conveyed about the quality of food and meal times in general. The mealtime experience was relaxed and unhurried; residents had a choice of roast meat and puddings and were offered wine or other refreshments. The dining tables were attractive, clean and set with good quality cutlery, napkins were provided and staff were attentive throughout. Several residents were keen to assure the Inspector that the provision of meals at Wetley Manor was always of good quality and that staff were always attentive and tried to please.
What has improved since the last inspection?
The rolling programme of redecoration has continued, with several bedrooms and the small conservatory having been upgraded. The extensive rewiring of the home is well underway and near completion. In September, five more staff have embarked on NVQ 2 training. The Inspector had the opportunity during this inspection to meet with the Course Tutor who was also visiting the home and he told the Inspector that the staff were very committed to the training and he was very impressed with the standards afforded at Wetley Manor.
