What the care home does well Residents are presented with positive choices throughout their stay. Medication was good, with no missed signatures from the records. Care plans are in place, and are risk assessed to reduce the risk to people. Staff training covers the statutory training required by law. What residents think the home does well "My room is done every week which I do appreciate" "Good food, caring staff and people to talk to" "Help with transport and day trips, also advice if needed" "Always hands tablets out OK" "The staff are alright, I can go out when I want" "I don`t have much money, but I go to a lot of meetings" "They (meals) vary, but are usually OK" What staff think the home does well Good basic routine - meals, medication etc and day trips Staff available to talk most of time The home provides the care needed for the residents, with day to day issues and communication is very good between staff and clients What the care home could do better: Protocols that inform the staff when to give PRN (or occasional) doses of medication, could be put in place. The records could also contain any number of medicine transferred from one medication `month` to another. This would ensure staff had additional information which would assist in the overall safety of the medicine process. More detailed training for all staff on the Deprivation of Liberty Standards would add another level to the protection of people. Care Homes for Adults (18-65 years) Page 3 of 8 What we found: The reason for this inspection was to confirm that residents health and social care continued to be as good as we found it at our last visit. We saw nine of the nineteen residents, three staff and the registered manager. Seven of the residents, all three staff and the manager spoke with us. Comments from comment cards sent to the residents and staff prior to the visit, and those made on the day have been included in this report. People felt they have enough information in the home to enable them to raise concerns around poor practice. We looked around the home, and saw that the programme of refurbishment continues with redecorating and new floor coverings to a number of areas. Residents that passed comment stated that they felt as though there were enough staff to care for people.
