Annual Service Review Page 3 of 6 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review: What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all of the information we have received, or asked for, since the last key inspection or annual service review. This included: the annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self assessment, which is required by law to be completed by the service and focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. Surveys returned to us by people using the service and from other people with an interest in the service. Information we have about how the service has managed any complaints. What the service has told us about any other things that have happened in the service, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. The previous key inspection and the result of any other visits that we have made to the service in the last twelve months Relevant information from other organisations. What other people have told us about the service. What has this told us about the service? The home sent us their annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) when we asked for it. It was clear and gave us the information we asked for. We looked at the information in the AQAA and our judgment is that the service is still providing a good service and they know what further improvements they need to make. We received completed surveys from four people living at the care home. All four told us they were asked if they wanted to move into the home and were provided with enough information to enable them to make a decision about moving in. All continue to be happy with their care. When asked if the manager and staff treated them well, all four told us always. All four residents told us they could do what they wanted during the day, in the evening and at weekends. One resident told us this is the best Leonard Cheshire home I have been in and another said they listen to people and they always try to be happy. When asked what the home does well, a resident told us cooked food very good and care from carers very good and a second resident responding to the same question said care, food and talk to the manager and also told us I am happy here. Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 The home has a complaints procedures and all four residents told us they knew how to make a complaint. When asked do the care staff and managers listen and act on what you say? Two residents told us always and two told us usually. Two suggestions for improvement were made to have more outings and for a physiotherapist to be employed at the home. The home has safeguarding adult procedures and a whistle blowing policy in place. The AQAA informed us that all staff receive regular updated training. Since the previous key inspection there have been two safeguarding alerts made. From discussion with senior management from the organisation and information received, it is evident that these are currently being investigated in line with procedures. The AQAA informed us that there is a stable staff team in employment and no agency staff are used. The AQAA also informed us that from a total of 22 care staff, 20 care staff have an NVQ level 2 qualification or above. This far exceeds the recommended standard for 50 staff to have an NVQ level 2 qualification. The service continues to let us know about things that have happened since the last key inspection and they have shown they have managed issues well. They work well with us and have shown us that the service continues to provide good outcomes for people who use it. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We are not going to change our inspection plan, and will do a key inspection by 12th October 2010. However we can inspect the service at anytime if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people using it.
