We visited Alexandra House on Tuesday 8th.June2010 to conduct a Random Inspection. We spent a total of three hours on the premises and looked at records, meal preparation and spoke with various members of staff to include the manager. This inspection was conducted in response to various concerns expressed to us by members of the public. The main concern expressed was that a poor nutritional diet was being provided. We inspected care plans and determined the dietry needs of a number of residents. We determined that weight charts were available although they were not completely uptodate. We observed the serving of the midday meal and assessed the choice available to include presentation. quality and quantity. We found this to be entirely satisfactory. We further determined that the 2nd. cook was on duty. Following discussions with the manager and staff it became apparent that the head cook was not performing to standard. Quality and quantity of meals when this person is on duty need considerable improvement. A detailed record of what each resident eats at meal times was not available. We discussed the activity program available to residents. We were told that activities do occur and some evidence of this was found in residents day notes. Substantial evidence of an activity program was not available.
