Further information on fees and contracts can be found on the Office of Fair Trading website: www.oft.org.uk Annual Service Review Page 3 of 6 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review: What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received and requested since the last key inspection which took place on 28 April 2008 This included: The annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) sent out by us, was completed and returned to CQC in a timely manner. The AQAA is a self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. Regulation 37 notifications informing us of significant events in the home have been received throughout the year. We reviewed the previous key inspection report. We took account of what other people have told us about the service and any relevant information received from other organisations was considered. What has this told us about the service? The home sent us their annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) when we asked for it. It was clear and detailed and gave us all the information we asked for. The AQAA report was written with the input of the homes staff and service users. The service aims to ensure that service users are treated with the utmost dignity and respect, giving everyone, every opportunity in life that anyone else could expect. The AQAA tells us that, new communication aids have been implemented to assist service users to communicate their views. Annual service users surveys and service users meetings have been introduced. As a result of listening to service users comments, transport arrangements to and from day centre have been changed to reduce the amount of time that service users spend a day centre. People who live at the home are encouraged to personalise their bedrooms. The service has introduced more sensory items to the home and introduced other documentation in more service users friendly formats. Several of the people living at the home have communication difficulties. The home has introduced a 1:1 recording system to identify where service users require additional support to ensure their needs are met and to identify where service users needs have changed. An activities coordinator is employed to support and encourage service users to participate in local community activities. The home has a complaints policy and procedure. In the last year procedures became available in audio and widget format. No complaints were received during the year. Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 There are a comprehensive range of policies and procedures in operation at the home. These have all been reviewed during 2009. 15 care staff are employed at the home, of whom 9 have achieved an NVQ level 2 or above in care. There is an ongoing staff training programme in place and staff are encouraged to develop their skills. In the last year the service has designed and implemented more robust systems to identify and monitor service users needs ensuring that they are met at the highest standard possible. There is an emphasis on everything being as service user friendly as possible. The home continues to provide a high standard of care and there is no evidence to indicate that outcomes for people who use the service have changed since the last inspection of the service. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We are not going to change our inspection plan, and will do a key inspection by 27 April, 2010. However, we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people using the service.
